Second Taiwan-Czech symposium strengthens IOCB Prague's international scientific collaboration
IOCB Prague hosted the second Taiwan-Czech Symposium, which brought together scientists from the institute and leading research institutions in Taiwan. As part of the scientific program, they discussed the latest research findings and opportunities for collaboration in the fields of molecular biology, materials science, and biomedicine.
“Our country has much in common with Taiwan, and not only in terms of geopolitics. However, I don’t want to delve too deeply into politics, because the central theme of today’s meeting is scientific cooperation. Key prerequisites for the success of both countries include an educated society, cutting-edge science, and technological advancement. It is precisely the support of these three areas and the strengthening of our cooperation that provide the best foundation for both countries to succeed in the face of growing international competition,” says Prof. Jan Konvalinka, director of IOCB.
The two-day symposium took place on 8 and 9 June 2026 at IOCB Prague, featuring 24 researchers from both countries who presented the latest results of their research. The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including the development of new drugs, light-controlled molecular systems, and research on nanomaterials and organic molecules intended for diagnostic as well as therapeutic applications.
IOCB Prague welcomed scientists from National Taiwan University, one of the highest-ranked universities in Asia, and Academia Sinica. The latter is the Taiwanese counterpart to the Czech Academy of Sciences and oversees research institutes across all scientific fields.
The meeting built on relationships established during a visit by IOCB Prague representatives to Taiwan in March 2025.
