Leading International Scientists Evaluated Research and Emerging Talent at IOCB Prague
Members of the International Advisory Board visited IOCB Prague from September 9 to 11. During their visit, they took part in selecting a new junior research group leader and evaluated the work of several existing research groups.
The International Advisory Board is the institute’s main external advisory body on scientific matters. Board members are leading scientists from around the world who visit the institute every September to provide an independent perspective on the quality of research and the institute’s future direction. They play a key role in selecting new research group leaders.
“I see the International Advisory Board’s visit above all as a celebration of science. It brings outstanding scientists from around the world to Prague and gives us a unique opportunity to openly discuss what we are doing, where we are headed, and how we can move forward,” says IOCB Prague Director Prof. Jan Konvalinka.
Selecting a New Group Leader and Evaluating Existing Groups
The first day of this year’s meeting was devoted to selecting the future leader of a new junior research group focused on computational chemistry. Seventy candidates from around the world applied for the position. Five were shortlisted and invited to present their previous research and plans not only to members of the International Advisory Board and the institute’s leadership, but also to the wider IOCB Prague scientific community. The results of the evaluation will be available in a few weeks.
The second day of the visit focused on evaluations of existing groups. Paulo Paioti underwent a mid-term evaluation of his junior group, while Miloslav Polášek was evaluated for transition from junior to senior group leader. Senior group leaders Edward Curtis, Zlatko Janeba, Lenka Maletínská, Jiří Vondrášek, and Milan Vrábel then underwent their regular five-year evaluations. The results of the evaluation will be available in a few weeks.
