PhD Student: Biomolecular Dynamics × AI/ML (ERBIOM project)
Job description
We are looking for a PhD student to join a project at the interface of biomolecular dynamics and modern data science (ERBIOM project). Our group has a long-standing track record in molecular modeling, molecular dynamics simulations, and structural bioinformatics of proteins and other biomolecules – and we're now scaling that expertise to meet the volume and complexity of data these methods generate.
This is not a conventional bioinformatics or molecular biology position. We're looking for someone genuinely excited by the intersection of structural/molecular biology, physics-based simulation, and machine learning/deep learning – a person who wants to be challenged by combining these fields rather than specializing in just one of them. You'll work on problems where large-scale simulation data meets ML/DL methods to extract new insight into protein and biomolecule dynamics.
Requirements
- MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant field – computational biology, bioinformatics, biophysics, computer science, or similar
- Solid programming skills (Python and/or comparable)
- Genuine interest in both molecular dynamics/structural biology and ML/AI – we care more about curiosity and drive to bridge these fields than a perfect-fit CV
- Good command of English
We offer
- PhD position within the ERBIOM project, embedded in an established group with deep expertise in computational structural biology
- Access to IOCB Prague's research infrastructure and computational resources
- Close connection to the ELIXIR CZ community and its data/tools ecosystem
- Competitive salary + health and social insurance
- 5 weeks of vacation plus 4 days of personal leave and additional employee benefits
- Support for parents with young children
- International work environment, location in central Prague
- Work on cutting-edge topics with immediate impact
- Access to cutting-edge research infrastructure
