Optical imaging of localized chemical events using programmable diamond quantum nanosensors

The joint paper of Petr Cígler Group, with colleagues from the University of Stuttgart (J. Wrachtrup) and the Faculty of Science, Charles University (J. Kotek), published in Nature Communications, describes the development of a hybrid nanoscale sensor that can be adjusted to directly monitor physiological species in cells.

  • The nanoscale sensors allow for monitoring of localized chemical processes occurring on an extremely small scale (down to several tens of molecules, i.e. ∼10–22 mol).
  • Operating under physiological conditions.
  • Quantum sensing approach (relaxometry of nitrogen-vacancy centers in nanodiamonds).
