RNA Club conference brought RNA researchers together at IOCB Prague

This year’s program covered a broad range of topics, from RNA processing and modification and the regulation of gene expression to RNA viruses, cellular defense mechanisms, and new approaches to studying RNA.

“RNA biology is central to understanding how cells regulate gene expression, respond to stress and disease, and ultimately translate molecular mechanisms into new therapeutic opportunities – making these topics highly relevant to research across IOCB Prague,” says Pavlína Maloy Řezáčová, one of the organizers of the event.

The invited speakers were Prof. Jeppe Vinther from the University of Copenhagen and Prof. Marcin Nowotny from the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw. Vinther presented his research on the mechanisms of hepatitis C virus replication, while Nowotny focused on reverse transcriptases and their roles in viral replication and defense against bacteriophages.

Hana Cahová also emphasized the strong sense of community and friendly atmosphere that characterize RNA Club. “The RNA community in the Czech Republic is scientifically very strong, but at the same time it feels like a close-knit family. This is reflected in the atmosphere of RNA Club, which was once again fantastic – enthusiastic, open and very friendly. We were also extremely fortunate to host two outstanding keynote speakers, whose talks were truly inspiring.”

The program also included 13 short scientific talks and more than 30 poster presentations. The 2026 edition of RNA Club was organized at IOCB Prague by Hana Cahová and Pavlína Maloy Řezáčová.
